In order for the NSX power plant to perform at its best, it must be assembled with care. Each engine powering Acura’s new supercars is hand-assembled by engineers trained in the assembly, maintenance, and repair of state-of-the-art vehicles like the NSX.
The 3.5L twin turbocharged V6 engine powering Acura’s supercar is longitudinally mounted and features a 75-degree V-bank, delivering 500 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. Factor in the Sport Hybrid system and the NSX specs climb even higher to 573 hp and 476 lb-ft of torque, with a top speed of 191 mph.
With the first gear engineered for launching the NSX from a stop and the ninth built for cruising, you have seven options left, housed in a close ratio 7-speed gearbox. The dual-clutch transmission is directly linked to the direct drive electric motor for an instantaneous response to your shifting.
Every element of the NSX performance has been engineered to deliver a response that is fitting for a supercar. Acura knows that not all roads are created equal, that sometimes a driver must adapt for the current conditions, and the NSX is ready to adapt with you. Choose from four driving modes on the Integrated Dynamics System—Quiet, Sport, Sport Plus, and Track—and get the most out of the NSX.
Direct electric torque and engine power combine for an advanced kind of performance, a dynamism that translates to braking and steering as well as acceleration. A pair of electric motors is located at the front of the NSX to immediately transfer torque to the wheels and guide you, and a third motor bridges the gap between the 9-speed dual-clutch transmission and the NSX engine.
Acura’s all-wheel drive system directs torque to each front wheel independently thanks to the two front motors, applying true torque vectoring with each turn of the NSX. The result is a car that is able to accelerate much earlier out of a turn, leading to faster times on the track and encouraging spirited driving.
Cementing the NSX among the modern Acura lineup, the front end sports a pair of Acura’s exclusive Jewel Eye LED headlights. Six-beam LED headlights illuminate the road ahead and give the front of the car a more aggressive look. The headlight reflectors are designed to catch sunlight in the day and give the car the appearance of jewels even when the lights are off.
Thousands of hours were spent on wind tunnel analysis and computational fluid dynamics tests, examining every dip and curve of the NSX. The result is a car that features three times the downforce at the rear than at the front for a precision sense of balance, and the lightweight yet durable multi-material body incorporates aluminum and carbon fiber for improved stability and safety.
The NSX knows when its key fob approaches, popping out the otherwise flush door handles to allow you entry. Flush door handles are just one of many small touches that create a huge impact on overall aerodynamics.
More than just a car, the NSX interior has been designed to be welcoming and comforting, like a home away from home. Dual-zone automatic climate control (with air filtration and humidity control) keep the cabin at just the right temperature, while the ELS premium audio system gives your driving soundtrack a level of clarity and power fit for a studio. A studio that can approach 200 mph, of course.
When driving in quiet mode, the exhaust gases of the engine pass through silencers to run virtually silent and deliver a serene cabin. Features like an acoustic glass rear cabin window, acoustic windshield, and Active Sound Control work to create a cabin that lets you focus on the drive.
Even the seat materials of the NSX have been selected for their performance, featuring aggressive bolsters to keep you secure behind the wheel and premium Milano leather so you can comfortably slide into the driver’s seat. Alcantara leather seat centers are perforated and offer improved grip. Available four-way power adjusters make it easy to get your seat placement just right, with memory settings that let you easily switch between cruising and performance driving.
The oblong shape of the steering wheel offers improved leg clearance below and an unobstructed view over the top. Convenient steering wheel-mounted buttons put cruise, audio, phone, and other controls right at your fingertips so you won’t have to take a hand from the wheel.
Manage the vehicle settings of the NSX through the convenient 7-inch touchscreen in the center of the dash. With a few taps you can configure Bluetooth preferences, adjust vehicle settings, or queue up your racing playlist for a trip around the track.
A practical supercar, the 2017 Acura NSX sports multiple USB ports (two in the glove box and one in the console) to keep your gadgets charged while out and about. Connect a compatible Android phone or iPhone to the NSX audio interface and stream directly from the device, taking advantage of familiar apps and services with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Able to sense when traction is lost and adjust engine performance in response, the Vehicle Stability Assist system of the NSX offers new levels of control under normally unfavorable driving conditions. Precision driving is key with a car as powerful as the NSX, and Vehicle Stability Assist helps you drive at your best.
Under-inflated tires can lead to unpredictable performance—the last thing a driver wants behind the wheel of a supercar. The standard Tire Pressure Monitoring System alerts you to tires that are low on air, lighting up the dashboard and letting you know which tire needs to be topped off.
The NSX has been built for drivers who love to devote 100% of their attention to the drive, but what about when you’re cruising down the highway on a road trip? Acura’s new supercar smoothly transitions from driver control to cruise control—and back, when you need it—with convenient steering wheel–mounted buttons.
The last thing you want is a ding in that precision-engineered NSX. Available corner and backup sensors use sonar to alert you to potential bumps and obstructions when maneuvering at slow speeds.
Back up with confidence thanks to the NSX multi-angle rearview camera, offering a 170-degree view of what’s behind the vehicle whenever you shift into reverse. Normal, wide-angle, and top-down views make it easy for you to trust that the path behind your Acura is clear.
Single-stage driver airbags, dual-stage passenger airbags, multi-threshold front airbags, and side curtain airbags (with rollover sensor) work together to cushion occupants of the NSX in the event of an accident.
